#reverb15 // Tackling It On My Own

For the past 2 years I have joined in with a team of bloggers, some who I know IRL, and some who are just internet friends, to reflect on the past year and prepare for the upcoming one with a series of posts called Reverb. I was so sad to find out that this year, they would not be continuing this, what I now consider to be an annual tradition. But why should that stop me?
I'm going at it on my own. I did a hot second of research and found a decade's worth of past Reverb-ers prompts, randomly selected about 20 of them, intentionally selected the rest, and plan to write every day in the month of December to kickstart my blogness back to life post-sabbatical.
My sabbatical was in New Zealand, if you weren't aware. It was amazing. And forgive me if all you read is 31 days of posts where I start talking about my favorite book, and end up telling you about how I did not finish said book because I was busy hiking Tongariro. I'm sure you won't mind.

The day 1 prompt 99.7% if the time is: Where did you start the year?
At the beginning of January we were buying a wine cabinet from Costco for our newly overhauled basement den. If you know us, you know how random that is. Not the Costco part. The wine-anything part.
After much deliberation over quality, size, and aesthetic, there was no doubt that it was the best possible deal to be had. It had a gorgeous granite top, dark wood to match the other furniture already down there, and a two-tier wine fridge for the appropriate red/white temperature settings. G and I don't drink wine that often, so we don't even know what the appropriate temperature IS. And as such, a wine cabinet from Costco makes total sense for us. The wine cabinet is now filled with great New Zealand wines for our guests when they visit, as well as many varieties of Prosecco and cider beer for me!
Anyways, we spent so much time deciding on the value and look of the cabinet we didn't really think about how we would actually get it into our house. We didn't have a car it would fit into. Mom does though! So I called her up and she came straight over to Costco where they took it out of the box and styrofoam so it would fit in her jeep. It took 5 fully grown men to get it from the ground behind her jeep into the back.
It was not until we were on our way home that I started to panic. How would Molly and I get the cabinet into the house, DOWN THE STAIRS, and into it's ultimate resting spot? I find it absolutely hilarious that the entire time this whole thing is going on, G is upstairs getting a massage. I shit you not.
When I panic about how something will get taken care of, I get busy calculating risk, efficiency, and cost in my head. Numbers nerd. We would damage the car, the house, and someone would probably end up in the ER if we did it ourselves. Too time consuming, too expensive. Cheaper solution: call two local moving companies to see if a couple of guys were available for a quick job, best price wins.
I had coordinated the movers before we pulled into my driveway and five minutes later two huge guys showed up with their straps, back braces on, and moving blankets. They struggled like hell. I paid them what they asked and tipped them well. They will be happy to never see me or my house ever again.
Then G stumbles down the stairs all post-massage dreamy and is like... What's happenin' guys? Snort.
