#reverb15 // Day 6 // Let it go

I'm joining pals Sarah and Elizabeth to write every day in the month of December, feel free to join in any time! Today's prompt: Let it go! What unfinished projects are on your to-do list for 2015? Are you going to finish them before 2015 ends, punt them to 2016, or just let them go?

This is a really interesting prompt sequence, because yesterday's post was about being vulnerable. I discussed how I'm a total amateur at it because I was raised to self-soothe, shove it down, and never express my emotions. So today, when examining anything I could have possibly not let go this year, I couldn't think of anything. *shocker*

If you started to feel a little sorry for me yesterday, then let it go. Because there are definite plus sides to this very limiting personality trait. I don't hold grudges. I don't dwell on negative feelings. I don't harbor guilt or shame. I don't fear change. Simply put, I don't hang on to things. Tangible or otherwise. I wrote a little something about this back in September.

So if I had a few goals or a to-do list for the year, by the time I got to the point where I would be feeling pressure to act (or punt), I've already forgotten it's something that I had intended to do. I've let it go already.

What's the point in hanging on to things? I figure, if it's really important then you'd just do it already. It would be a priority. If you've punted the same goal from 2014 to 2015 and are now contemplating... just stop. It's OK to quit. You know? Isn't that a thing these days... quitting stuff? I love that.

Anyways, feeling so guilty over not completing something this year that you are doubling down to recommit for next year just sounds miserable to me. If you didn't do it, wasn't there a reason?

Don't punt. Let it go. Reevaluate. Make a new plan that's more in line with your current needs, your current self. And the things that are important will get done whether they're on The List or not.
