Reality Check // Week 10

Reality check is my weekly confessional. The good, bad, and ugly will go here so that I can just... be. Be real. Be authentic.

I started a discussion about habits on Monday, so I thought it would be a good exercise to give myself credit for the good habits I have, and to document any bad habits that I have as well (to either just be aware of, and be either OK with, or to have a desire to change).

It took me a while to think of these, I guess because anything that the average person would consider a "good" habit I just find normal... so I don't see anything that I do as exemplary! And since there isn't anything that I'm actively trying to banish from my life, any "bad" habits I have are not things that are really on my mind in a way that I would be obsessing over a change. Maybe I should, but per my post on Monday about wanting change, I need to have a little more motivation and the energy to apply to it before I commit to trying. Until then... I'm accepting the consequences.

Good habits:

+ Supplements. I have gotten really good at taking my contingency of "pills" in the mornings. These include my probiotic, turmeric, and fish oil supplements. I have an official day of the week pill box (happy to report I haven't graduated to the AM/PM pill box yet. egad) and I typically remember to take them on my first big glass of water in the morning or with my Kayshake.

+ Exercise. I teach group fitness classes, so even if I ditch all of my other "voluntary" workout time, which is also extremely important to me, I have working out built into my schedule. The accountability in being an instructor is unparalleled. I'm not just meeting a friend at the gym. I'm meeting 30 of them, and they'll be pissed if I sleep in. Ha!

+ Cooking. We eat out once a week usually, sometimes twice if the mood strikes us, but primarily, there is a lot of cooking and eating fresh, healthy recipes most days of the week. This includes lunches. I bring my lunch to work 99% of the time. It's good for the body and the wallet.

+ SPF. My new bestest friend in the world. I am obsessed with applying SPF. It's in every single product I put on my face post-morning-wash.

+ Before bed routine. I have a specific before-bed routine which includes flossing, brushing teeth, exfoliating face, applying toner, night face cream, eye cream, eczema cream to any inflamed areas, and a quick check to make sure I don't have any alien eyebrow hairs. Even at my most tired, I don't skip a single step.

Bad habits:

+ Social Media. I think this one is big for a lot of people. I tend to fill every nook and cranny of my day where I might otherwise be bored or waiting for something (even for stoplights to turn green) by entertaining myself on facebook or instagram. Shameful. When did it become not OK to be bored?

+ Water. I don't drink nearly enough water each day. Not even HALF as much as I should. I don't know what it will take to get me to habitualize this. It IS something that I want. But, I don't feel bad, per se, when I am probably technically dehydrated. If I felt terrible, I would have motivation to drink more. So, I almost wish I did! Anyone have any tips for me? I keep a full water bottle with me at all times already! I just don't think about it.

+ Sweets. I crave sugar so badly. And I 100% understand body chemistry to the end that if I eliminated it entirely from my diet, I would eventually not crave it. But, if I'm being truthful, that's not what I want. I truly enjoy it so much - dark chocolate, a little sweetness to my coffee, Costco cake :) I don't want to give it up. I just want to eat less of it. So, I have to take a moderation approach - and that sometimes fails me a bit.

+ Lululemon. I hesitate to put this on my bad habits list. But at the end of the day, it's a lot of money that I could be responsibly putting towards other things. I get so much enjoyment out of it (and rarely spend my disposable income on any other retail clothing) that I'm not truthfully in the market to break this habit. Not trying to change, just accepting the consequences.

So that's my short list! Don't leave me hanging- please share with me one of your BEST or WORST habits too! Do any of these resonate with you?
