For the first time ever, I decorated a wedding cake with paper flowers AND I coordinated the day-of wedding activities for my brother-in-law and new sister-in-law AND I wore a rental. The wedding was SO MUCH FUN!
Here are some of my observations during this time:
+Everyone is on their best behavior. LOL do I really need to say anything more??? I'm sure all hell breaks loose at some family events, but for the most part even the most evil of people don't want to be THAT GUY who ruined the whole evening.
+As a very experienced paper flower maker, my ideas for cake decorating came very easily, and implementing that idea onto a styrofoam cake place holder was perfect. When it actually came time to put the flowers on the real cake, I was chanting out loud "Oh my god I don't know what I'm doing. Oh my god I've never done this in my life" and my blood pressure was swirling in my ears and I was sweating. Fake it till you make it, people! I did get it done of course, even as I put the last flower on top I was still saying "Oh my god I have no idea what I'm doing" And the second after that last flower went in? I became a total professional at this. On the resume it goes. LOL. Such is life.

+Rent The Runway was a perfect solution for my outfit. Did I want to look fabulous and have my choice of over a thousand dresses without worrying about the price tag? YES. Really any occasion where you want something unique or fun to wear that you will never ever wear again to any other event begs a rental. They send you 2 sizes in case you're not sure or in between measurements, and for a small extra fee they will send you an entirely different second choice of dress in case the tutu you picked out didn't look as fabulous as you imagined it would. In my case? The tutu was THE MOST FABULOUS. Of course. I can rock a tutu with confidence no questions asked. Here is a blurry random picture someone took of me trying simultaneously to not fall down the grassy hill in my heels and not step in goose poo.

+If you use glow sticks instead of sparklers as your send-off lighting of choice, you must hide them from the children (and adults) until the very end of the event.
+Wedding coordinating might be my new calling. You know, if I wanted to work every weekend for the rest of my life and deal with Bridezillas and Groomzillas on a daily basis. This wedding was on a Friday night, which I think is the perfect time. It gives everyone the entire rest of the normal weekend to recover from such frivolity. Also, neither my brother-in-law nor sister-in-law were zilla in any way. Super relaxed, easy going, and basically signed over their power of attorney to me to wave my magic wand (and beat people with it) all night long. I would never get a dream couple like that again. But, I did observe that people, in the absence of never having gotten married before (and even those who had, but not at this location) just want some direction, they want to be told where to go and when and how and with whom... and so all that natural first-child bossiness that I have inside me went to good use. Plus, I was wearing a tutu. I am happy to report that every single wedding event on the timeline happened as planned and on time. I am a total professional at this. On the resume it goes. Such is life.
*If you need a day-of wedding coordinator and are no more than a level 4 out of 10 on the zilla scale, I'm willing to take you on for $2k (plus travel expenses if required).
**Zilla scale, patent pending ;)
